1972
The Beginning of Sawgrass
Ground was broken for the Sawgrass Country Club golf course, making the beginning of what would become one of Ponte Vedra Beach’s most recognized private, member-owned clubs.
1973
Tennis Courts Open
The Sawgrass tennis complex opened with 12 courts, establishing the foundation for a racquet program that would later grow into a stadium court for professional tournament play.
1975
Original Beach Club Opens
The first Beach Club opened in July 1975 as a two-story oceanfront facility featuring dining, a cocktail lounge, tiki huts, a 25-meter L-shaped pool, and coastal views.
1977-1981
Tournament Players Championship
From 1977 to 1981, Sawgrass Country Club hosted the Tournament Players Championship, helping shape an important chapter in PGA Tour history before the event moved to TPC Sawgrass.
1980
Lipton World of Doubles
Sawgrass hosted the Lipton World of Doubles beginning in 1980, welcoming top professional players and introducing a new stadium court built with private boxes, bleachers, and seating for thousands.
2012-2013
Fitness Center Rebuild
Sawgrass rebuilt its Fitness Center as part of a broader facility improvement initiative, creating a modern space for fitness, wellness, group classes, and member-focused programming.
2016
Beach Club Renovation
The Beach Club underwent a major renovation designed to enhance the oceanfront member experience with updated dining areas, expanded outdoor seating, refreshed lounge spaces, and improved poolside amenities.
2018-2021
A New Clubhouse
The Clubhouse renovation modernized one of Sawgrass Country Club’s central gathering spaces with updated dining areas, improved lounges, enhanced event spaces, and a design connected to the Club’s coastal setting.
2025
The Next Chapter
Sawgrass Country Club continues its story with Capital Improvement Projects designed to enhance golf, racquet sports, facilities, and the overall member experience for today’s members and generations to come.
